`Seek TN's help for temple renovation'

MADIKERI DEC. 7 . The MLC, M.C. Nanaiah, on Saturday suggested to the Talacauvery and Bhagamandala Temples Jeernodhara Samiti to take a delegation to meet the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa, to seek the help of the Tamil Nadu Government for the renovation of the Talacauvery and Bhagamandala temples.

He was speaking at Talacauvery at the formal launch of the renovation works being taken up by the samiti. Tamil Nadu was utilising the Cauvery waters to irrigate over 24 lakh acres of lands. It meant that the Tamil Nadu Government earned hugely from the crop yield. So, it had the moral obligation to plough back something for the renovation, he said.

Mr. Nanaiah was of the opinion that the delegation, led by the President of the samiti, Matanda C. Monnappa, should meet the former Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, in this regard, apart from the benevolent public seeking financial assistance. If invited, he too would be pleased to join the delegation, he added.

Stating that Talacauvery and Bhagamandala should become pilgrimage centres instead of tourist centres, Mr. Nanaiah said an atmosphere conducive to create religious feeling among the people was the need of the hour. He asked presspersons not to sensationalise the issues regarding the renovation works in the interest of the development of the pilgrim places.

The Minister of State for Muzrai, Suma Vasant, performed the "Bhumi Puja" near the Ganapathi Temple at Talacauvery. Seeking the cooperation of the people, she said renovations would be taken up only in accordance with the traditions without altering the original shape or structures.

The Kshetra Tantri, Neeleshwara Padmanabha, the Vastu expert, Mahalingaprasad Muniyangala, and the Agama Pandit, Ganapathi Shastri, were present. Mr. Matanda C. Monnappa said that criticising the renovation efforts should be stopped. Deficiencies were bound to be there but could be corrected through timely action. He recalled efforts made by the JD Government to renovate Talacauvery and Bhagamandala a couple of years ago, and sought cooperation of all.
