Scientist among four killed in road accidents

BANGALORE: Four persons, including a scientist at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), were killed and five injured in road accidents reported from the city and Bangalore Rural district on Friday.

Two youths were killed when a bus belonging to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) hit their motorcycle near Dooradarshan Kendra on Jayamahal Road around 11.30 p.m.

The police gave the names of the dead as Girish (27), a financier, and Manjunath (25), an interior designer.

The two were residents of Shivanagar in Rajajinagar.

They were going towards Mekhri Circle from Jayamahal when the bus that came in the opposite direction hit their vehicle. The R.T. Nagar traffic police seized the bus and arrested the driver, Prabhu.

A scientist at the IISc. was killed and five members of his family were injured when the car by which they were travelling rammed a tractor on National Highway 4, off Boodhihal Gate, in Nelamangala police station limits in Bangalore Rural district around 6 p.m.

The scientist has been identified as T.B. Rajashekar (51), a resident of Mahalakshmi Layout.

Dr. Rajashekar and his family members were returning to Bangalore after attending a marriage at Tiptur in Tumkur district, the police said.

The injured, Gowramma, Shivaprakash, Anoop, Uma and Nishan, have been hospitalised.

Labourer killed

A labourer, Natarajan (23) of Tamil Nadu, was killed when he came under the wheels of a lorry at the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) yard in Byatarayanpura.

The police said that around 7.30 a.m. while taking the lorry in the reverse the driver ran over Natarajan.

The Hebbal traffic police have registered a case.
