Rupee ends mildly lower

MUMBAI, NOV. 1. Rupee ended mildly lower against the U.S. currency today on light dollar demand from state-owned banks in quiet, range-bound trade at the interbank foreign exchange market.

The Indian unit closed at Rs. 47.9900/9950 a dollar, a further one paisa decline from Wednesday's finish of 47.9800/9850 after trading in a narrow groove of 47.9850 and 48.0050 in muted business. It opened at 47.99/48.00.

The rupee lost around half paisa yesterday. Scattered dollar demand from public sector banks exerted mild pressure on the rupee in a spot trade that lacked clear market direction. Volumes were also thin.
