MORE OFTEN than not, the public have a tough time getting through to the elected civic representatives to submit their grievances. Their contact numbers or addresses are simply not available in an organised manner. Not even the Chennai Corporation has booklets.

How about a resource book on the NGOs?

The Exnora International North Chennai District unit has brought out a directory that includes the addresses and telephone numbers of 205 units and all other forums spread over about 32 localities in North Chennai.General information and emergency services such as government and private hospitals, blood banks, ambulance service, 24 hour chemists, police, fire, Electricity Board, Telephones, Railways and Airlines are also included. ``This was a step forward to set up a strong network all over the place. The idea is to reach out to people and help them help themselves,'' says Mr. M. B. Nirmal, founder chairman, Exnora International.

For reference, names and addresses of the members of the Tamil Nadu State Exnora Governing Council, district Exnora units all over the state, the Exnora International cabinet, and the State Exnora Executive Committee, along with their telephone numbers have also been printed. The copy of the directory is being sold for Rs. 25.
