Real estate agent murdered

He had intervened in a quarrel among three youths an hour before he was attacked

BANGALORE: A real estate agent was hacked to death by an armed gang in Vijayanagar police station limits on Thursday night.

The police gave his name as Nazir alias Mohammed Sharief (41), a resident of 14th Cross, Bapujinagar. The police said that around 10 p.m. when Nazir was going on his scooter, he saw three youths, Imran, Kaalu and Nayaz, quarrelling on 15th Cross, Bapujinagar.

Nazir got down from his scooter and tried to pacify them. He reportedly slapped one of them and went away.

Around 11 p.m. when Nazir was returning home, six men waylaid him near the entrance of Bapujinagar. They attacked him with swords, dragged him to a distance and smashed his head with a boulder, the police said.

Majeed, a friend of Nazir, who was passing by saw the realtor lying dead in a pool of blood and alerted the police. The Vijayanagar police, who have registered a case, suspect that the three youths and their accomplices could have murdered Nazir.

Held on robbery charge

A special team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Fraser Town) Victor S. D'Souza on August 16 arrested five youths on charges of robbery and recovered from them gold ornaments, two mobile phones, a motorcycle and an autorickshaw. The police also seized five large knives from them.

The police said the five-member gang had attacked three students with swords in Ramamurthynagar police station limits on August 11 and robbed them of gold ornaments and mobile phones. The arrested were involved in six cases of robbery reported from Ramamurthynagar, Bharathinagar and Shivajinagar police station limits, the police said.

The names of the arrested were given as Rajesh (22) of Marathalli, Krishna (27) of Chintamani taluk in Kolar district, Maya Krishna (27) of Bharathinagar and Sunil (25) and Satish alias Appu (26), both residents of Ramamurthynagar.

The five, who were arrested in murder and dacoity cases and were lodged in Bangalore prison, were released on bail recently. They had befriended one another in the jail, the police said.

Priest killed

Vasudeva Murthy (45), a priest and a resident of Kumaraswamy Layout, was killed when a lorry rammed his scooter on Hosur Road, off Koodlu Gate, around 10.30 a.m. on Friday.

The police said Murthy was on his way to a house to perform Varamahalakshmi puja.

The Madivala traffic police have registered a case and seized the lorry.


The Ulsoor Gate police arrested two persons who had allegedly stolen Rs. 8 lakhs in cash from the house of a businessman, Pookhraj Chaudary, in Nagarathpet on July 6.

The police gave the names of the arrested as Mukesh alias Moolaram (19), a native of Jalore district in Rajasthan and Jithendranath, proprietor of a mobile phone shop in S.P. Road here.

Mukesh was employed in Chaudary's shop, the police said.
