Proposals ready for road, drainage projects

TIRUPUR: Tirupur Municipality has prepared proposals to construct stormwater drains and lay roads with financial assistance from Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Limited (TUIFSL).

According to municipal sources, stormwater drains and small bridges will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 25 crores and roads will be laid in all the wards at a cost of Rs. 27 crores.

The municipal council gave approval to the works a month ago, the sources said.

Provision for storage of rainwater would also be incorporated in all the stormwater drains. Asher Nagar, VOC Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Padmavathypuram, Teachers Colony, Thiruvalluvar Street, Murungapalayam, Kumar Nagar, Kamarajar Nagar, Muthusamy layout, Elango Nagar, Ramamurthy Nagar, Cotton Mill Road, Kumarappapuram, Alangadu, Sengunthapuram, KVR Nagar, Vinayagapuram, Poochakkadu, Kongu Nagar, Kallampalayam, Sathya Nagar Extension, Selvapuram, Kangeyam Main Road, KPN Colony, Jammanai Street, Eswaramurthy Nagar, KM Nagar and Karattankadu areas were selected for the works. As per the proposals, the roads would have stormwater drains on either side.

The Municipal Engineer, G. Ravi, said that the proposals would soon be sent to the Commissioner of Municipal Administration. Then it would be forwarded to TUIFSL for loan. "In all probabilities the works will be taken up in three months in a phased manner," he said.

The municipality decided to engage consultants from TUIFSL to finalise the design for the daily market and modern slaughterhouse.

While it earmarked Rs. 1.36 crores for construction of slaughterhouses, Rs. 3 crores would be allotted for daily market.
