Police zeroing in on love bug creator

MANILA, MAY 7. Philippine police today asked a lower court to issue an arrest warrant against an individual suspected of having created the ``love bug'' virus which caused havoc worldwide, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.

The suspect had been placed under surveillance, the bureau said.

``We are still trying to have a warrant of arrest issued. We have a suspect,'' Mr. Nelson Bartolome, chief of the NBI's anti-fraud and computer unit, told AFP.

He said the suspect was under surveillance in a ``target area'' although the suspect's identity would not be released. ``We will serve the warrant immediately, but there is no timeframe.

The virus, which originated in a Philippine Internet service provider, appeared on Thursday and spread around the world in a matter of hours via an e-mail with the message ``Iloveyou.''
