Police foil plan to murder man

MANGALORE: Police have foiled a conspiracy to kill a person from Katapadi, Udupi district, by arresting six persons and seizing two weapons (one revolver and a pistol), 21 live rounds and three mobile phones from them, K. S. Suresh Babu, Inspector General of Police (Western Range), said here on Thursday.

Addressing presspersons, he said that the Moodbidri police intercepted a car at Moodbidri town early on September 27. There were four persons in the car. The one who was driving the car identified himself as Manjunath, 28, from Achangi village near Sakaleshpur and said that he was a journalist. Another person, who identified himself as Ravi Kumar, said he was a police inspector with city crime branch, Bangalore, and showed an identity card. Later Ravikumar revealed his real name as Achangi Ramesh of Sakaleshpur. The other two in the car were Ismail, 29, from Santhe Katte, Udupi, and Imran, 22, from Katapadi, Udupi. They were planning to murder Deyyu alias Dayananda Shetty of Katapadi Udupi district. All the four persons were arrested later.

On further investigation police arrested two more persons, Mohammed Rafiq, 33, and Mohammed Riayz, 21, on September 28. He said that Ramesh had met one Siraj, an undertrial in Mangalore sub-jail, thrice in connection with planning the murder of Mr. Shetty.
