Pinarayi against union of unemployed

KOZHIKODE, MAY 7. At least some leaders of the CPI(M) seem to have reservations about the decision taken by the CITU, trade union wing of the CPI(M), to form a union of unemployed youth.

The CPI(M) State secretary, Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan, said at a press conference here today that ``there seems to be some confusion about this decision. Leaders like the late B. T. Ranadive (a founder member of the CITU) did not want a separate union of unemployed though there is no doubt that those who are employed need our support''.

It was the all-India general council of the CITU which took this decision at its meeting in Kozhikode recently. CITU leaders, while announcing the decision, had said there was no need to get the CPI(M)'s approval for floating a union of the unemployed.
