Notices to CBI, Jagir Kaur on bail cancellation plea

CHANDIGARH, NOV. 27. The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notices to the SGPC chief, Bibi Jagir Kaur, charged with her daughter's murder, and the CBI on a petition seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail to Bibi.

Mr. Justice S.S. Nijjar issued the notices, returnable on December 13, on a petition filed by Mr. Kanwaljeet Singh, the self-claimed husband of Bibi's deceased daughter, Harpreet.

The counsel for Mr. Kanwaljeet pleaded that the anticipatory bail of the SGPC chief should be cancelled in view of her alleged attempts to influence witnesses.

The bail cancellation application cited the example of ``misuse'' of bail by Bibi's supporters, who laid siege of the petitioner's house and allegedly attacked a crew of TV journalists which came to interview Mr. Kanwaljit last week in his village.
