Lokayukta to issue notices to officials

BANGALORE, OCT. 7. The Lokayukta, N. Venkatachala, will issue show cause notices to the Chairman and the Managing Director of the Karnataka Minority Development Corporation (KMDC) asking why action should not be taken for the lapses found in the functioning of the corporation.

Mr. Venkatachala, on a surprise visit to the office of the minority corporation on Wednesday, had found that it had not recovered over Rs. 50 crores of loan amount. He had found cheques not encashed and several office files locked up in the chairman's cabin. The visit also revealed that some officials were indulging in corruption. "Action will be taken against them," he said.

Mr. Venkatachala said he had also received complaints of lapses in other development corporations. "I will make surprise visits to these corporations also," he said.

Mr. Venkatachala said he had asked the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, to bring in an ordinance to amend the provisions of the Lokayukta Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act. He had also asked for certain powers to be given to the Lokayukta.
