Karun Chandok registers wins

CHENNAI, MAY 20. Karun Chandok of team Jk Tyre did India proud with two wins at Johor Baharu in Malaysia today, widening his lead in the championship standings.

In the first race, Karun got off to a brilliant start and was followed by team-mate Asif Nazir. Karun put in some blinding laps to maintain a one second lead over the second placed Indian. The two held on to their positions till the fifth lap with the former maintaining a one second gap.

However, bad luck struck Asif Nazir on the sixth lap when his car came to a standstill on the straight. From there on, it was a smooth ride for Karun all the way to the finish.

Michael Ali finished second while Dennis Lian had to be content with third spot. Asif Nazir, who moved from 10th to fifth spot, had to retire on lap 5 after being hit from behind.

The second race saw Asif Nazir get the better of Dennis Lian and Karun Chandok into the first corner. For the next seven laps, Karun followed a close second. He finally overtook him on the fifth lap after Asif developed gearbox problems. Karun maintained his lead to the chekered flag. Despite his problems, Asif Nazir drove brilliantly to finish second, a press release from the Wallace Sports and Research Foundation, one of Chandok's sponsors, said here.
