Kalkura awards presented

MANGALORE: Eight achievers in the field of culture and language today received the awards instituted by Kalkura Foundation here in a glittering function on Saturday.

The list included Sanskrit scholar and Agama Panditha Hariskrishna Tantri, border area fighter for Kannada U.P. Kunikullaya, Saxaphone artiste Dr. Kadri Gopalanath, Tulu Folklore expert and scholar Palthady Ramakrishna Achar, senior poet and president of the Kannada Development Authority B.M. Idinabba, Tulu theatre expert and resource person Damodar Nisarga, retired Journalist of Udupi Damodar Aithal and philanthropist Pangala Rabindra Nayak.

It was a confluence of literature, poetry, theatre, music, media language and social work and perhaps one of the largest line up of personalities on a single platform Mangalore has seen so far.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of the foundation, said the contribution of the great persons should be showcased in society so that many more will get motivated.

The recipients of the awards also expressed similar sentiments and unequivocally thanked the people in the society who made them as great they are presently by patronising their art and music.

Giving benedictions after conferring the awards the swamiji of the Krishnapura Mutt of Udupi, Vidyasagara Thirta, said that the talents were god-given but to hone them and use them for the welfare of society is human endeavour.
