IoT botnets attack multiple vulnerabilities

A new trend in cybercrime is the exploitation of multiple vulnerabilities by IoT botnets. Earlier, they exploited a single vulnerability. The multi-vector approach is harder to fight. This was the pattern observed in the attacks by IoT botnets like Reaper and Hajime, according to cyber security firm, Fortinet. Reaper was programmed to have a devastating impact, as its code was written in such a way that it could be easily updated on the fly to run new and more malicious attacks as they become available. The most vulnerable targets are wi-fi cameras, with nearly a four-fold increase in the number of exploit attempts over a three-month period. More than that, none of the detections were associated with known security threats.
