Hurriyat has no base: Omar

SRINAGAR, MAY 20. The Union Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr. Omar Abdullah, today said the Hurriyat was not the representative of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Inaugurating a branch of J&K Bank at Gund Kangan, the Minister said the Hurriyat might have some influence in certain pockets of the State but it did not represent the people of the State. ``New Delhi and the world must appreciate this reality.''

Referring to the efforts being made for heralding peace in the State, the Minister said the NC would cooperate with all those parties who were committed to bringing peace in the State.

On providing employment to locals during the Amarnath Yatra, the Minister said he would take up the issue with Governor, Mr. Grish Chandra Saxena, who was also the Chairperson of the Amarnath shrine board.
