HRA benefit for Pondy Govt. staff in rural areas

PONDICHERRY, NOV. 1. The Union Territory administration has extended the areas of coverage for the enhanced House Rent Allowance for the Government staff working in villages within eight km. range of Oulgaret municipality under the classification of C category city.

The staff in 17 villages would be benefitted by this arrangement, which envisages an enhanced HRA of 7.5 per cent from 5 per cent. This was announced by the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Rangasamy, at a press conference here today.

He said that the Union Home Ministry had given its concurrence in this regard, on a representation made by his Government. The arrangement would be in vogue for three years from June this year.

Mr. Narayanasamy said that sugarcane growers, who had measured the cane to the Pondicherry Cooperative Sugar mills during the 2000-2001 crushing season, would be paid Rs. 777 for a ton of cane.

The mill had crushed nearly 2.6 lakh tons of sugarcane during the last crushing season.

Bonus announced

Mr. Rangasamy said that workers attached to the various Public Sector Undertakings and cooperative institutions including the AFT mill here would be given bonus ad ex-gratia payment on the same pattern as was given last year during Deepavali.

As much as Rs. 7.11 crore would be disbursed under the payment of bonus and ex-gratia payment. Bonus (8.33 per cent) and ex-gratia for workers in the Government-run Distillery and SPINCO (44 per cent), Cooperative sugar mills (40 per cent) PIPDIC and Pondicherry Power Corporation (35 per cent) PASIC and PAPSCO (34 per cent), the Pondicherry Textiles Corporation-AFT (32 per cent) and the Pondicherry Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (22 per cent).
