`Hospitality industry should match tourism boom'

MANIPAL, MARCH 11. Nakul Anand, Managing Director of ITC Hotels Ltd., said on Wednesday that the hospitality industry should rise to the occasion to match the potential of tourism sector. Tourism is helping in the growth of the economy of the country. Students graduating from hospitality institutes should have both aptitude and character.

Mr. Anand was speaking as chief guest at the Graduation Day ceremony of the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA), a constituent institution of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). Rajiv Kaul, vice-president of the Taj Group of Hotels, said that tourism industry has been growing at the rate of 8 per cent per annum for 10 years. About 50,000 additional rooms are required to match the tourism boom. Students from hotel management institutes should have passion for the job. They should be committed to teamwork.
