Five killed, six injured in road accidents near Mangalore

MANGALORE: Five persons were killed and six injured, one seriously, in two accidents in the district on Thursday.

Two persons drowned when a lorry fell into the Nethravathi after colliding with a car near Jeppinamogaru on NH 17 at about 3.50 p.m. today. The lorry fell from the Nethravathi Bridge on the highway. Police gave the names of those drowned as Abul Razak, 30, driver of the lorry from Konaje, and Padmanabha, 40, its conductor from Grama Chavadi.

The injured in the lorry were Yakub, Usman, Arif, Rafeeq, Asif and Khaleed. They were admitted to a hospital here. Among the injured the condition of a person is stated to be serious. The lorry was coming towards Pumpwell from Thokkottu when the incident took place.

The car was heading towards Manjeshwar from Mangalore.

Three killed

In another accident at Beluvai under Moodbidri police station limits, three persons in a car died on the spot after the car collided with a lorry.

Their names were given as Moideen, 44, his wife Noorjan, 35, and her brother Hanif, 38. They were coming from Karkala to Moodbidri to attend a wedding when the accident took place near a church at Beluvai at about 10 a.m.
