Firms to hire people with disabilities

MANGALORE: Two leading information technology companies, Chennai-based Laser Soft Infosystems Ltd. and Bangalore-based Global E-Softsys Pvt. Ltd. announced at separate media conferences here on Thursday that they intend to start a recruitment drive.

The recruitment drive will offer an opportunity for people with disabilities to join the companies.

While Laser Soft Infosystems Ltd. has already earned a name for employing people with disabilities, B. Suresh Kamath, Chairman and Managing Director, said he wants to increase the percentage of people with disabilities working for the company to 40 in the next two years. At present, disabled people constitute 15 per cent of the company's workforce.

Reiterating the words of President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Mr. Kamath, who recently received an award from him for providing employment to people with disabilities, said that the mind does not have any disabilities. Global E-Softsys, an e-business software solutions provider, is opening its new offshore development centre in the Empire Building on Mahatma Gandhi Road here on Friday.

Speaking to presspersons, K.U. Shenoy, company Chairman, said he is optimistic about the potential to get trained manpower for the centre. M.K. Shankaralinge Gowda, Secretary, Information Technology, Biotechnology, Science and Technology, will inaugurate the offshore software development centre. B.V. Naidu, Director of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) at Bangalore and Hyderabad, and N. Yogish Bhat, Mangalore MLA, will be chief guests, Mr. Shenoy added.

Campus recruitment is an option we will consider, Mr. Shenoy added.
