Curfew relaxed in Malegaon

MUMBAI, NOV. 1. Encouraged by incident-free past 24 hours, the authorities relaxed the curfew for five hours today - from 7 a.m. to noon - in Malegaon, which was rocked by violence since last Friday.

In Kalwan and Devla, the curfew was relaxed from dawn to dusk as the situation returned to normal. Police said the night curfew would continue at all the places as a precautionary measure.

However, a small incident of stone pelting at a police party was reported in Wakhari in Devla taluk. Police fired in the air to control the mob and arrested 45 persons. A few rounds were fired at Malgaon of Malegaon taluk in a similar situation.

A few houses and shops were damaged at Mhasdi in the adjacent Dhule district. Police chased away the miscreants.
