CPI(M) to oppose both NDA, Cong.

NEW DELHI, MAY 20. The West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, tonight said there was no question of a compromise with the Congress and said his CPI(M) would oppose both the BJP- led NDA and the Congress.

"We have to oppose both the BJP-led NDA and the Congress. There is no question of compromise with the Congress," he told `Star News'.

"People know we oppose the economic liberalisation of the Congress and the communal policies of the BJP," he said.

However, to a question whether threat to the Left Front was more from the Trinamool Congress or from a national party, he said though in the just-concluded elections, it was the Trinamool Congress, in the long term the party had to fight the BJP.

Referring to the third front, Mr. Bhattacharjee said efforts were on to form an alternative to the BJP and the Congress and the left parties had an important role in it.

To another question, he dismissed as "baseless" the Trinamool Congress' allegation that CPI(M)-led Left Front had rigged the West Bengal Assembly elections.

He said the Left Front retained power in the State as it had projected alternative policies which the people "accepted readily".
