Cooperatives to meet today

MANGALORE: Dakshina Kannada District Cooperative Union Ltd. is taking forward a consultative process on a move by the Government to amend The Karnataka Cooperative Societies Act, 1959. Cooperators from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu and Uttara Kannada will meet here on Saturday to place their views before a three-member committee set up by the Government to amend the Act.

P.B. Diwakar Rai, union president, told presspersons here on Thursday that the meeting has been convened under the aegis of the South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank. Karnataka Apex Cooperative Bank Ltd. Chairman M.N. Rajendra Kumar, who is also the SCDCC Bank Chairman, will chair the meeting.

He said the committee has circulated a 12-point questionnaire eliciting opinions on various proposals to amend the Act. The representatives of Taluk Agricultural Produce Cooperative Marketing Society and the Primary Land Development Bank will present their views at the meeting. The committee will consider their views before presenting its final report to the Government.

He said the Centre has conducted a similar meeting for representatives of cooperative institutions here on August 4. Mr. Rai said views expressed in that meeting have been compiled into a 20-page report, which will be presented to the committee.
