Cooperative sector urged to gear up to face challenges

Udupi: V.S. Acharya, MLC, on Monday said the cooperative sector should prepare a roadmap to meet the challenges posed by globalisation. He was speaking here after inaugurating the 52nd All India Cooperative Week celebrations organised by the Udupi District Co-operative Union.

Dr. Acharya said the next 10 years will witness a sea change in the economic profile of the country because of the WTO regime. A time may come when the Government may do away with subsidies for the cooperative sector. The sector should be prepared for these changes, which can be dealt through professionalism and leadership. It is necessary to train the personnel in this sector.

Kishan Hegde Kolkebail welcomed the gathering. The President of the Teachers' Cooperative Bank presided over the function. N. Ramesh Shetty, Vice-President of the SCDCC Bank, Shankar, Deputy Registrar of Cooperatives, and Ravindra Patil, Deputy Director of Cooperatives Audit Department, were present.
