Come prepared for meetings, officials told

MANGALORE, MARCH 11. Subodh Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, on Friday asked officials to come prepared for review meetings.

Mere attendance at the meeting will not serve any purpose if the officials are unable to provide answers on matters pertaining to their departments, he said. Use of Kannada in administration, small savings scheme, progress of schemes pertaining to women and child welfare, review of decisions taken at meeting held in December 2004, electrification of drinking water supply schemes and Ganga Kalyan schemes were discussed.

Somanath, President of the zilla panchayat, presided over the meeting.

Mr. Yadav asked the officials to provide information in the prescribed format.

About the data given by the Assistant Director, Department of Kannada and Culture, on the use of Kannada, Mr. Yadav asked the official to update it. He asked the heads of departments where the compliance was less than 100 per cent to follow suit.

Devendraswamy, Assistant Director of the Small Savings Department, said the net savings from April 1, 2004 till the end of February 2005 was Rs. 268.20 crores against the target of Rs. 187 crores, an achievement of 143.42 per cent. The achievement in terms of gross target is 88.38 per cent with a total collection of Rs. 495.84 crores against the target of Rs. 561 crores.

To a question from the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Devendraswamy said the department is implementing the directives on net and gross targets given to it.

He said while the department garnered a majority of the savings because of its own efforts, various departments under the zilla panchayat too pitched in. Mr. Yadav asked the officials concerned to meet the targets.

Abbas, chairperson of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Industry and Dhanalakshmi C. Bangera, chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Justice in the zilla panchayat, were present. T.J. Takath Rao, Chief Planning Officer, welcomed the gathering.

K.B. Anjanappa, Deputy Secretary, and N.H. Khandari, Chief Accounts Officer, were present.
