College teachers seek payment of arrears

MANGALORE, FEB. 26. Teachers from the colleges affiliated to Mangalore University have sent a memorandum containing 11 demands to the Director of Collegiate Education, M.D. Muthamma. The demands include those related to their service structure.

The memorandum, handed over to the Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Padmanabhan, here on Tuesday, said the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers had been pressing for the implementation of the 20-point programme recommended by a high-power committee. The Minister for Higher Education, G. Parameshwar, was aware of the programme, but the Government was silent on it, although it did not entail any financial burden on the exchequer.

The Government had not released the Rs. 45 crore earmarked for paying the arrears due to the teachers who had been upgraded.
