CM suspends three BMP engineers

Bangalore May 9. The Chief Minister, S.M.Krishna, on Thursday suspended three Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) engineers for permitting ``unauthorised'' construction of a three-storeyed building in Seshadripuram's Anayappa Block. Mr. Krishna was responding to a complaint on unauthorised constructions by a resident of the area, Vittalmurthy, during his ``Janata Darshan'' programme here.

The complainant told the Chief Minister that the owner of the property, Nageshetty, had constructed a new building without getting a plan sanctioned from the BMP. ``He took permission for renovation and built a new house flouting building by-laws,'' Mr. Vittalmurthy said.

``After repeated complaints to the BMP, a few BMP men came to demolish the building. But they went away without doing anything,'' he said.

He alleged that Mr. Nageshetty was an ``influential person'' and had bribed the jurisdictional BMP engineers to fabricate documents and report to their higher-ups that the illegal portion had been brought down. ``After this, when I complained again they tried to bribe me too. They are now threatening me with dire consequences,'' Mr. Vittalmurthy alleged.

An infuriated Chief Minister asked his officers to examine the service records of the three engineers, Srinivas (Assistant Engineer), Rudramurthy (Assistant Executive Engineer) and Satyanarayana (Executive Engineer) and then suspend them.

The BMP Deputy Commissioner (Administration), K.N.Chandrashekar's office is, however, yet to receive an order from Mr. Krishna's office on the suspensions.
