Chilling plant for coop. milk society planned

PONDICHERRY, JULY 20. Mr. C. Jayakumar, Cooperation Minister of Pondicherry, who went on a surprise visit to the Jayaprakash Cooperative Spinning Mill at Karaikal a few days ago said here on Thursday that the three-shift system would be restored in the mill.

He held discussions with workers and management of the mill and sanctioned a canteen for the mill where the workers would get subsidised food items. The issues relating to uniforms, wage hike and other welfare measures for the workers were also studied by the Minister.

He was accompanied by the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. A. V. Subramanian representing the Karaikal constituency. Mr. V. Balaji MLA and Mr. V. Bhalan, an office-bearer of the ruling TMC, also accompanied Mr. Jayakumar during his visit to the mill.

A chilling plant for the cooperative milk producers society would be installed at a cost of Rs. 1.40 crores, he said. Depending on the fat content of the milk supplied by farmes to the plant, the price of milk would be raised.

The poor functioning of the Mangani Cooperative Stores in Karaikal was also studied by the Minister.

It was now paying Rs. 92,000 per month towards interest for loans it had raised from the cooperative bank. Two modern rice mills were also sanctioned for Karaikal region which would be installed at a cost of Rs. 1.70 crores.
