Caution against pilferage of PAP water

COIMBATORE, AUG. 21 . The Collector, S. Kosalaraman, has cautioned that stringent action would be initiated against farmers who pilfered water released from the Thirmurthy Reservoir for the second zone of the Parambikulam Aliyar Project.

In a statement, the Collector pointed out that 1,100 cusecs was being discharged into canal from Friday for the benefit of second zone farmers.

As much as 64,000 acres in Udumalpet, Pollachi, Palladam and Tirupur taluks coming under the Coimbatore district, 30,000 acres in Kangeyam and Dharapuram taluks of Erode would benefit from the release.

Though it was originally planned to release water only for 60 days, because of the copious inflow, it has been decided to extend it for 85 days. The Collector also directed the authorities to keep a vigil along the canal route to prevent pilferage.
