Burglary in four houses

CHENNAI, APRIL 29.More than 150 sovereigns of jewellery and over Rs.1.3 lakh in cash were stolen in four different incidents of house breaking in the city on Saturday.

Two of the incidents occurred in the same house on the Big Street in Triplicane. Police said Mrs. Tahsil Sirajuddin, who resided on the ground floor, was off to her relative's place in Ambattur on Friday evening.

She returned home on Saturday morning to find the door broken, and 65 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs. 16,000 missing. The house of Mr. Moideen Jaffer, who resided on the first floor, was also burgled and 25 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs. 10,000 were stolen. The Triplicane police have registered cases.

In a similar incident, the house of a retired government doctor, Dr. Radhakrishnan, was burgled when he was away with his family to Tirupati. The thieves decamped with 60 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs. 70,000. A complaint has been lodged with the T.P.Chatram Police.

The fourth incident came to light in the Indira Nagar First Main Road, Adyar, where the house of Mr. Seshadri was burgled. The culprit escaped with eight sovereigns of jewellery and Rs. 40,000.
