Bangalore: Public sector petro-retailer Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) is looking at 600 to 800 strategic sites across the country for its retail outlet expansion plans, .

"Out of these, 250 each will be in the north and west zones, 200 in the south zone and 100 in the east zone," said BPCL Executive Director (Retail) Sanjay Krishnamurti.

He launched the company's high-octane petrol, Speed 97, for high-end cars in one of its outlets here on Wednesday.

"The past three years have seen a 33 per cent capacity expansion from 2,000 retail outlets to 6,600. Our focus will now be on consolidating the new retail outlets," he told presspersons.

BPCL has introduced high-octane petrol for high-performance cars that are currently using available petrol owing to lack of such fuel resulting in lower performance, he said.

Speed 97 has specially designed components for "high-performance engines like that in Opel Astra, Hyundai Accent, Palio to Porsche, Mercedes Benz and Ferrari".

"Of the 55 BPCL outlets in Bangalore, the fuel is already available in 10 and will be extended to another four outlet soon," Mr. Krishnamurti said.

He also said that 21 cities across the country are being targeted for this fuel.

The product that is now available in select outlets in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore will be extended to Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Cochin.

"We are also looking at Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Jamshedpur," he added.
