Boys outpace girls by a whisker

COIMBATORE: In the SSLC results announced on Saturday, girls outshone boys in Coimbatore District in pass percentage and also shared the district level ranks equally. While in the ranks at the educational district level, boys lost them to girls by a whisker.

The Chief Educational Officer, Coimbatore, P.A. Naresh, told The Hindu that the district had recorded 1.39 per cent rise in pass percentage in the SSLC exams compared to the previous year.

Of the 35,682 students who took the exams 30,827 students emerged successful. Of the 18,603 girls who took the examinations, 16,771 students passed recording an enviable 90.15 pass percentage against the boys.

Of the 16,857 boys who took the exams only 13,847 had emerged successful netting a pass percentage of 82.14.

In the Coimbatore Revenue District, Government schools registered 83.46 per cent pass, aided schools recorded 91.27 per cent, municipal schools recorded 84.19 per cent, corporation schools 82.95 per cent and self-financing private schools posted 97.79 per cent.

Out of the 35 schools that coached 35,682 students for the SSLC exams, 10 Government schools and 16 Government-aided schools came out in flying colours registering centum results followed by nine self-financing schools.

The district-level toppers included P. Nithya of SCM Higher Secondary School at Vadambacherry coming under the Tirupur Educational District who got first rank by scoring 484/500. R. Srimathi of Thambu Higher Secondary School, Press Colony in Periyanaickenpalayam scored 481/500 to bag the second rank. C.K. Satish Kumar of Gopal Naidu Higher Secondary School of Peelamedu in Coimbatore City along with her classmate, S. Anandhi scored 480/500 to share the third rank.

Matric exam

Out of the 10,562 students of 146 schools who took the matriculation examinations 10,187 students emerged successful registering a pass percentage of 96.45 per cent.

Out of the 146 schools, 71 schools in Coimbatore, 48 in Tirupur and 27 in Pollachi educational districts managed to score centum results.

The district level toppers included K. Saravanaprabhu of Sreenivasa Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Udumalpet who scored 1054/1100 to bag the first rank, followed by M. Kanagasabapathy of the same school who got 1051/1100.

The third rank went to R.B. Sindhu, St. Joseph Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tirupur who scored 1050/1100.

Anglo-Indian exams:

Coimbatore bagged the State first rank with J. Ramkumar of Stanes School. The other district level toppers included M. Gokulakrishnan (951/1000), M. Prathiba (951/1000) and P. Praveen Kumar (949/1000) all from Stanes Higher Secondary School.

Out of the 446 students of three schools who took the exams 415 passed netting a pass percentage of 93 per cent.

In Tirupur educational district, 10,234 students had passed the examinations out of 11,611 registering 88 per cent.

In the matriculation stream, 2,852 out of 2,959 students passed. R.P. Sindhu of St Joseph Matriculation HSS, Tirupur emerged as a district topper with 1,050 marks out of 1,100.
