The Bandodkar Gold Cup, the award for a top football tournament of the 1970s in the State, that was made of solid gold once has been switched with one made from a less precious metal, said former Chief Minister, and president of Churchill Brothers football club, Churchill Alemao, on Saturday.

At a press conference here, Mr. Alemao vowed to launch a probe into the switch, if he wins the upcoming election for the president of the Goa Football Association (GFA). However, he admitted he did not know when it happened or in which president’s tenure.

GFA president Elvis Gomes responded by asking why Mr. Alemao who had several years to file a police complaint on the matter had not done so already.

Disbanded in 1994, the tournament was revived some years back by the GFA.
