Appointed Director of Kolar PG centre

BANGALORE: M. Ramachandre Gowda of the Department of Commerce, Bangalore University, has been appointed Director of the Postgraduate Centre, Kolar. A decision to this effect was taken by the university Syndicate here on Saturday.

P.R. Nanjunde Gowda had been serving as the Director of the centre for the past 10 years. The change follows a request by Dr. Gowda himself.

The centre offers the M.Sc. course in botany, a M.Com programme and MA in economics and Kannada.

The Syndicate also approved a standing committee recommended by the university's Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribe cell on the directions of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the State Government.

The panel will look into the recruitment of Dalits and admission of Dalit students to colleges affiliated to the university. The committee comprises D. Jeevan Kumar, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Political Science; Govindaiah, Chairman of Sericulture Department; Narendra Kumar from the Electrical Engineering Department of the university, Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, and Nagesh B., the panel's convenor.

Incidentally, Bangalore University is the first one to constitute the panel, sources said.
