Anand retains Corsica title

CHENNAI, NOV. 1. World chess champion Viswanathan Anand retained his Corsica Masters title at Bastia in France on Wednesday by drawing the tie-break blitz game against Alexander Chernin of Hungary with the black pieces after both regular rapid games ended in draws. The final was disappointing with all three games drawn. Anand received about $16350 as first prize and Chernin about $10,900.

In the first game Chernin was able to hold Anand to a draw with the black pieces. Anand got just one small chance to complicate matters which he did but it was not enough to crack a seasoned Chernin in a 20 minute a side battle. Anand had not played him since the previous edition of this event.
