AIADMK's poser to Elangovan

CHENNAI, SEPT. 2. The Supreme Court order staying the release of detenus came as an opportunity to the AIADMK to continue to target the TNCC(I) president, Mr. E.V.K.S. Elangovan, for his criticism of the remarks of the party general secretary, Ms. Jayalalitha, on the Veerappan affair.

The AIADMK chairman, Mr. K. Kalimuthu, while referring to the remark of the TNCC(I) president, Mr. E.V.K.S. Elangovan, that the statement of Ms. Jayalalitha calling for the resignation of the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr. S.M. Krishna, was ``childish'', wondered whether the TNCC(I) chief would now describe the Supreme Court order as ``childish.''

Mr. Kalimuthu wanted to know if Mr. Elangovan, who had insisted that only the AICC(I) president, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, had the right to ask a Congress(I) Chief Minister to step down, would now say that the Supreme Court had no right to ask the Karnataka Government to quit.

In this context, Mr. Kalimuthu recalled the observations of the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Om Prakash Chautala, and the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr. Jyoti Basu, blaming the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu Governments for their handling of the hostage crisis.

The AIADMK leader expressed hope that Mr. Elangovan would, henceforth, be more discreet while making comments in public.
