Advani 'reveals' ULFA plan for disrupting poll

Sualkuchi, April 29. Union Home Minister L K Advani today said the banned ULFA had received four directives from its headquarters to unleash violence during the May 10 Assembly poll in Assam.

"The State Director General of Police has informed that ULFA had received four directives from its headquarters to carry out subversive activities in the State," Advani told reporters here.

He said three directives were to carry out attacks on AGP and BJP workers, hold them to ransom and extort money, carry out attacks on securitymen, and take an undertaking from the Congress that if it came to power they would not act against the outfit.

The Union Home Minister said under such circumstances the election was not an ordinary one and would prove a challenge for democracy.

"I have appealed to our partymen to be prepared to sacrifice their lives if necessary for this cause," he said.

Advani wanted the Congress to clarify its stand against the ULFA and urged Congress President Sonia Gandhi to react on the issue.
