28,909 students take SSLC exam. in Dakshina Kannada

MANGALORE, MARCH 17. The SSLC examination got under way here on Thursday. No case of malpractice was reported from any where in the district on a day which saw 28,909 students (15,148 boys and 13,761 girls) appear for the examination.

With the Karnataka State Secondary Education Board going in for the cluster system in conducting the examination, a few examination centres across the district were grouped as clusters and students assigned to them in alphabetical order. No clusters have been formed in Mangalore taluk owing to the terrain and the fact that students here have to come from distant and hilly areas.

There are 16 examination centres in Mangalore taluk. Nineteen such centres have been set up in Mangalore City zone, including five centres for private candidates. The zone also has also been divided into six clusters. In Bantwal taluk, there are 13 examination centres including two clusters. Belthangady taluk has 10 examination centres including one cluster.

In Moodbidri, authorities have set up four examination centres and one cluster. There are five centres including one cluster in Sullia and 13 centres including two clusters in Puttur. The office of the Deputy Director of Public Instruction here has categorised students from 321 schools in the district and assigned them to 80 examination centres for smooth conduct of the examination.

In addition, vigilance squads headed by the Deputy Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police, the Chief Executive Officer of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, the Deputy Director of Public Instructions, and Block Education Officers have been set up to keep a check on instances of malpractice. The district administration has promulgated ban orders in a 200-metre radius of all examination centres.
