25 more treated for eye injuries

BANGALORE Oct. 26. Even as the festival of lights ended on Sunday, city hospitals treated 25 more people with eye injuries caused by firecrackers.

As many as 10 eye injury cases were reported from Narayana Nethralaya.

While most of them were treated as outpatients, Girish Babu, a resident of Jayanagar, was admitted with a perforation to his right eyeball.

Hospital sources said Babu was kept under observation after a surgery. The victim had suffered the injury while bursting crackers on Saturday.

Another patient, Nagaraju from Varthur in Bangalore Rural district, was rushed to Minto Eye Hospital after he developed a condition called "hyphema'' leading to accumulation of blood in the anterior part of his right eye. After treatment, he was kept under observation, doctors said.

A resident of Shanthinagar, Maruthi (20), was brought to the hospital with a similar injury to the left eye. He was also admitted. Twelve more patients with eye injury brought to the hospital were treated.

Two patients from Cox Town and Peenya Dasarahalli were treated at the M.C. Modi Eye Hospital. Their eyes were washed and the particles removed. Three minor cases were treated at Prabha Eye Clinic.

Over 50 eye injury cases have been reported in and around the city since Friday.
