Oldest to conquer Everest

TOKYO: A 70-year-old Japanese man became the oldest person to conquer Mount Everest on Thursday, reaching the summit of the world's highest mountain with his son and a team of other climbers. "What was really a dream came closer, step by step, and I was finally able to stand on Everest at the highest point in the world," Yuichiro Miura said in a phone call to Tokyo, his office said in a release. Miura, 70 years and 222 days old, broke the record of Italian Mario Curnis, who at the age of 66 scaled the 8,848-m peak in May last.
