dated October 14, 1953: Uneasy Korean Truce

On the 12th, the United Nations Command accused Communists of violating the Korean armistice by bringing fresh combat planes in crates from Manchuria into North Korea. Major General Blackshear Bryan, Chief of the Allied Armistice Commission, sent an urgent request to the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission asking it to investigate the complaint of truce violation. But, the new United Nations Commander in Korea, General John Hull, visiting the United Nations base camp in Munsan said he knew of no serious Communist violations of the agreement. There have been some indications of violations, but I know of no serious ones, he told correspondents. General Hull was accompanied by General Maxwell Tayler, the eighth Army Commander.
