dated, November 1, 1952: Mahasabha chief arrested

Dr. N. B. Khare, president of the Hindu Mahasabha, was arrested by the city police of Bombay at his residence and taken to the Nagpur Central Jail. Dr. Khare was picked up following a statement that he would undertake peaceful picketing at the gate of the Cricket Association Ground where a three-day cricket match between the Pakistan team and the Central Zone was scheduled to begin on the 31st of October. An order under the Preventive Detection Act was served on him.

Dr. Khare had explained to the District Magistrate that he wanted to register a "token protest" against India inviting Pakistan at a time when that country "is intent" on ousting its Hindu population by intimidation.
