dated March 4, 1954: Lahore-Amritsar rail link

A shuttle train service will be run shortly between Amritsar and Lahore for the first time since partition. Through traffic was suspended between India and Pakistan soon after partition in August 1947. Officials of the Northern Railway (India) and North-Western Railway (Pakistan), who concluded their two-day conference in Lahore on March 2, announced that, in view of the estimated volume of traffic, a shuttle train service for passengers would for the present meet the requirements. The date of the resumption of the service would be announced some time this month.
