Rev. H.A. Popley, who was living in Coonoor in retirement after more than 30 years of service in the London Mission, Erode, passed away on May 9 at his residence “Sunbeam” at the age of 81. He was well-known for his literary work as a translator of the “Kural” and his skill in rendering Tamil Christian music in the Carnatic style. He leaves behind his wife and his son, who is working in the Assam Hills. A funeral service was held at All Saints Church, Coonoor on May 10. For a period he was Secretary of the All-India Y.M.C.A. At the time of his death he was President of the local Y.M.C.A. and a Director of the Coonoor Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd.
