dated February 25, 1960: Summit talks

Mr. Nehru stated in New Delhi on February 24 that questions like disarmament could not be the monopoly of three or four Powers, but a matter of interest to many countries in Asia also. He had no doubt that at some stage or other Asian countries would also come into the picture. The Prime Minister was answering a question at his Press Conference whether he endorsed the Indonesian President’s suggestion that Asian countries also should be represented at the Summit Conference. Mr. Nehru said that as things stood, if a large number of countries sat together they might deliver harangues to each other without taking problems nearer to solution. An informal private meeting was much more likely to yield some results.
