Why not local brands?

Though I hold no brief for the multinationals which market the branded soft drinks, I would like to draw the attention of the social activists to the quality (or lack of it) of the large number of non-branded, cheap soft drinks produced locally all over the country.

In fact, these soft drinks account for more than all the branded soft drinks put together. Only the better-off sections of society consume branded soft drinks, while the poor take to the locally produced ones. There is a need to initiate some concrete steps at the local level to ensure the quality and hygiene of local brands also.
