The Maa show

Naresh, a barber and student of medicine... a symbol of `Swayamkrushi'.

Action and emotion. Song and dance. Stars and celebrities. For one year the channel has enlivened the living rooms with a variety of beaming from the skies. Completing one year, it's celebration time and those at Maa TV are lining up a series of events for the occasion.

On April 10, the channel is all set to unleash fun and fiesta at the Lalitha Kala Thoranam on its first anniversary. Among others, the long list of invitees for the evening includes the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Union Ministers -- Bandaru Dattatreya and Krishnam Raju.

Anniversary celebrations and Maa TV also chose it as an occasion to honour prominent personalities in different fields. The `Maa Visistaseva Puraskarams' this year will be presented to Akkineni Nageswara Rao, K. Raghavendra Rao, Dasari Narayana Rao, D. Rama Naidu, Brahmanandam, Parachuri brothers, B. Soma Raju, A.G. Krishnamurthy, S.V. Prasad and Vasanthan. How about identifying and honouring unsung heroes from remote corners of the State? Called `Swayamkrushi', the award this year goes to Naresh, a barber, who, while running his shop, is also studying medicine, Subhadra Bai, an unlettered villager, who devised a machine that runs on oil extracted from `Kanugula' seed, and Lingam, a born handicap without hands and legs, who has excelled in sports. Others happen to be Sumalatha, a toddy-tapper at 13 years age and Kankaiah, who prepared a loon after losing eyes in an accident.

The channel is also busy stirring a lot of ideas for entertainment and education of viewers in coming days.

"Lots and lots of fun is on the way,'' it assures. Also on the anvil are plans pertaining to district cable channels, SMS-based programmes and interactive programmes, apart from a round-the-clock news channel.
