Stirring nostalgia

THANKS TO a blend of rain and shine for a few weeks, the Lord Wenlock Downs on the outskirts of Ooty provided an ideal setting for the 2004 Summer Golf Meet and the 101st Open Amateur Golf Championship of Southern India conducted by the Ootacamund Gymkhana Club.

The presence of the Tamil Nadu Governor P.S. Ramamohan Rao and his wife Uma Rao added lustre to the prize distribution function.

The Governor's observations, vis--vis golf and its role in ensuring the physical and mental well being of the players, enthused many of those present.

The release of a compilation on the game with particular reference to the Ootacamund Gymkhana Club and its chequered history was the highlight of the evening.

Apart from being highly informative, the book offered many of the long-time golfers and senior citizens a trip down memory lane.
