Stinking scenario

IT WAS a welcome, though belated, attempt by the Madurai Corporation to desilt all storm water drains. However, leaving the wastes dumped on the roadside is a matter of concern for the people in the locality.

An example is the heap of waste dumped on the pavement along the Panagal Road, which has made the whole area stinking.

The desilting work was taken up on Tuesday, but the watery waste was not shifted immediately.

Though Corporation staff claimed that they could transport the muck only after it dried, they failed to make an allowance for the rainy season.

Even before the slush, which dried up in the last two sunny days, could be carried, the sudden showers on Thursday added to the stench.

The people wanted prompt action by the officials, considering the fact that the Government Rajaji Hospital is in the vicinity.
