Sounds of Isha

THE ISHA Yoga Center in Poondi wore a festive look on Mahashivarathri day. Apart from special poojas and meditation, there was a rich tapestry of colour, movement and sound drawn from different traditional celebrations.

The function started off with a procession, led by the founder, Jaggi Vasudev, to the Dhyanalinga multi-religious shrine. The pooja was followed by `aradhana,' an offering of dance performed by Bramhacharies of the foundation. Vocalist Pandit Jasraj gave the `nada aradhana.'

Later, he performed `slokas' and `bhajans' in Hindustani classical style. The performance of Carnatic neofusion group Pranava, led by M.V.Raghavendra Rao, was a combination of the ancient and modern music. At midnight, Sandya Kalya Sadhguru conducted the powerful `mahamantra' meditation.

The meditation was interspersed with lively cultural performances.

After the meditation, sounds of vibrant percussion ensemble filled the air. The percussionist, Anandhan Sivamani, was in action. The energy continued to build as Dollu Kunitha, the drum-dance troupe from a shepherd tribe of central Karnataka presented their traditional tribal performance.
