Shrouded in paradoxes

DRESSING PATTERN has remained paradoxical in the city for generations. By and large, there has been no connection between weather and the dressing pattern.

While there is an awareness among the younger generation of the concept of dressing comfort, a vast section still feels that cumbersome clothing is a way of life. Such habits are more evident during functions, official or otherwise. The urge of the middle class has been to look rich, drawing them towards suits in the process, even in scorching heat.

Another interesting aspect is the presentation of shawls as a mark of honour, though the garment has nothing to do with the hot, hotter and hottest climate prevailing here.

In most cases involving urban dignitaries, the shawls are draped only once and then relegated to the cupboards forever.
